2014 Essay Contest winners


The Glenview Village Board of Trustees on April 17 recognized winners of the 17th annual CHARACTER COUNTS! in Glenview Essay Contest.

Students were asked to write an essay on one of two topics:

  • How has a figure in history, a book, a poem, a film, art or music influenced the development of your own character?
  • Is it the responsibility of those who have more to take care of those who have less? Explain.

More than 1,500 entries were received from nine schools.

The winners were presented with awards provided by: Northview Bank & Trust, American Chartered bank, Glenview Optimists and Image Specialties.

Fifth Grade

1st place — Drew Ornduff, Hoffman School

2nd place — Harry Vaselopulos, Willowbrook School

3rd place — Kevin Mejia, Hoffman School

Sixth Grade

1st place — Spencer Hensley, Springman Middle School

2nd place — Ellie Pazol, Maple School

3rd place — Isabella Desroberts, Springman Middle School

Seventh Grade

1st place — Emily Cerimele, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School

2nd place — Jimmy Reid, Springman Middle School

3rd place — Gayatri Chavan, Maple School

Eighth Grade

1st place — Charles Kang, Maple School

2nd place — Emma Janson, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School

3rd place — Nina Wetoska, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School
