2016 essay contest winners

The Glenview Village Board of Trustees on April 19 recognized winners of the 18th annual CHARACTER COUNTS! in Glenview Essay Contest.

Students were asked to write an essay on one of two topics:

Describe what it means to respect yourself. What role does respect play in your family and/or community.
Describe an incident or event that has inspired you to change how you approach life. What pillars of character were involved?

Almost 1,400 entries were received from 12 schools.

The winners were presented with awards provided by Northview Bank & Trust, American Chartered Bank, Glenview Optimists and Image Specialties.

Fifth Grade

1st place — Rachel Kunkel, Hoffman School

2nd place — Adyson Powell, St. Catherine Laboure School

3rd place — Ishrak Jalaluddin, Wescott School

Sixth Grade

1st place — Stephen Rolfes, Springman Middle School

2nd place — Regan Koh, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School

3rd place — Liam Hand, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School

Seventh Grade

1st place — Ty Shagory, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School

2nd place — Jack Garrigus, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School

3rd place — Caroline Humphrey, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School

Eighth Grade

1st place — Maya Epstein, Maple School

2nd place — Sophie Rogoff, Maple School

3rd place — Anabelle Burke, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School
