2018 Essay Contest winners

The Glenview Village Board of Trustees on April 17, 2018 recognized winners of the 21st annual CHARACTER COUNTS! in Glenview Essay Contest.

Students were asked to write an essay on one of two topics:

  • Choose a person you admire. Write about why you admire this person, using specific examples of the way he or she demonstrates one or more of the pillars of character.
  • If you were a superhero, and one of the pillars of character were your superpower, how would you use it to make a positive difference in your community or the world?

More than 1,200 entries were received from 11 schools.

The winners were presented with awards provided by Glenview Bank & Trust, Northview Bank & Trust, Glenview Optimists and Image Specialties.

Fifth grade

1st place — Kevin Schuh, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School

2nd place — Kyle Byrnes, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School

3rd place — Kailey Crouse, Glen Grove School

Sixth grade

1st place — Will Anthony, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School

2nd place — Blake Harrigan, Attea Middle School

3rd place — Demetra Cios, Springman Middle School

Seventh grade

1st place — Fiona Yin, Maple School

2nd place — Maria Paradies, Springman Middle School

3rd place — Patrick Loftus, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School

Eighth grade

1st place — Sophia Pinc, Maple School

2nd place — Hallie Baer, Maple School

3rd place — Jaden Dias, St. Catherine Labouré School
