Every year, during Character Counts! week in October, Character Counts! in Glenview celebrates the event by holding a student poster contest with three grade categories: kindergarten through second grades, third through fifth grades and sixth through eighth grades.
Soon after the school year begins in September, students in kindergarten through fifth grades are asked to create 8 1/2 x 11 inch posters of original artwork that best represent how good character is displayed, using one or more of the six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. The posters can be created using crayons, markers or colored pencils.
Since 2013, students in grades six through eight have been asked to create videos of one to two minutes, with any of the six pillars of character as the subject.
Each grade category will have a 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place winner. Kiwanis Club of Glenview-Northbrook generously sponsors the contest by providing cash awards to all winners.
